About
Dr. Akindele Adebayo Mebawondu is a mathematician, researcher, university teacher, and academic administrator with specialization in Functional Analysis, Fixed Point Theory, Nonlinear Analysis, Optimization, Banach Algebra, Operator Theory, and Iterative Algorithms. He is currently a faculty member in the Department of Computer Science and Mathematics, Mountain Top University, Ogun State, Nigeria, where he contributes to teaching, research, postgraduate and undergraduate supervision, curriculum development, and academic administration.
Dr. Mebawondu holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa, obtained in 2020. He also holds postgraduate degrees in Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences from institutions in South Africa, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics. His academic training and research experience have provided him with a strong background in both theoretical and applied mathematics.
His research is primarily focused on the development and analysis of iterative methods for nonlinear problems, with particular interest in fixed point problems, variational inequalities, optimization problems, equilibrium problems, monotone inclusion problems, and related computational models. A significant aspect of his research involves constructing new iterative algorithms and establishing their existence, convergence, stability, boundedness, error estimates, and computational efficiency. He is particularly interested in connecting rigorous mathematical theory with numerical and computational applications.
Dr. Mebawondu has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed research articles published in international mathematical journals. His research collaborations have involved scholars from Nigeria, South Africa, and other parts of the international mathematical community. His scholarly contributions span areas such as fixed point theory, nonlinear functional analysis, optimization, variational inequalities, graph-based mathematical problems, and iterative approximation methods.
Beyond research, Dr. Mebawondu is committed to mathematical education, student development, and capacity building. His academic interests extend to mathematical analysis, real analysis, functional analysis, algebra, numerical methods, algorithms, and the interface between mathematics and computer science. His combined background in mathematics and computing provides an interdisciplinary perspective for addressing contemporary problems involving mathematical modelling, optimization, algorithms, and computational mathematics.
He has also undertaken significant academic leadership and institutional responsibilities, including departmental administration, programme development, curriculum review, student supervision, quality assurance, and coordination of academic activities. His professional experience includes teaching at different levels of education and academic engagement in both Nigeria and South Africa.
Dr. Mebawondu's current research direction is centred on developing efficient and theoretically robust iterative algorithms for nonlinear optimization and fixed point problems, with increasing interest in computational mathematics and interdisciplinary applications. His long-term academic objective is to contribute to the advancement of mathematical theory and its application to complex scientific, engineering, technological, and computational problems, while mentoring students and emerging researchers.
