Profile

Professor Monioluwa Omolara Olaniyi has 32 years professional work experience in multicultural and multiracial environments across Nigeria, Belgium and Germany. She was the pioneer Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Technology, Innovation and Research (DVC-TIR) at the National Open University of Nigeria, and the first elected and first female Dean of the Faculty of Sciences of the institution. She earned her Bachelor’s, Master and PhD degrees across Nigeria and Belgium. She holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Biosafety of Plant Biotechnology and also in Management of Higher Education Institutions. She had training in taking your teaching online and acquiring skills for 21st-century teaching and learning both from the Open University, UK. She earned professional certifications in Information Technology from CompTIA A+ and Oracle and in higher education teaching from Harvard university. She is a recipient of scholarships and fellowships including ABOS Belgium, VLIR-UOS Belgium, DAAD and IITA-GTZ fellowships, Germany as well as travel grants for conferences by Bioversity, IFS and TETFund. She also earned national and international research grants including CERAD-FUTA, IFS, NOUN Senate Research Grants, TETFund Institutional Research Grant and the Partnership for Enhanced and Blended Learning West Africa (PEBL-WA) project funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. (DFAT) through the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), UK. Her research results are published in reputable outlets including international journals, book chapters and conference proceedings. Her current research interests focus on Nematology and plant protection, conservation and utilisation of medicinal and underdeveloped plants as environmentally safe options in the management of plant pathogens, biosafety of biotechnology, and the development of digital tools for the effective teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programmes. She has served as an external examiner of postgraduate students' theses to some universities and is an invited speaker at professional conferences. Professor Olaniyi is passionate about inclusiveness in capacity development and mentorship. She has influenced policy and internationalization/diplomacy and collaborations within the spheres of her official obligations, and she is building on earlier explored collaborative initiatives.
